Top 5 Baseball Pitching Machines
September 1st, 20101 | ATEC Jet Baseball Pitching Machine |
| I purchased this for my 7 year old this christmas. We could not get 2 consecutive pitches to come out the same way. After engaging in a small engineering project to level out the machine on a plywood base; anchoring the legs etc. I had to pack it up and return it. It is unusable - I am very surprised that it performed so badly for a commercial product. What was the design/testing criteria ? | |
2 | Franklin Sports Mlb Pitching Machine No. 6696S3 |
| Purchased the 6696S3 pitching machine a few weeks ago after test driving a colleague's son's one. I've been using it for only 2 weeks now.
The device has 3 pitching modes, and a few times I get hit in the face, but the balls are plastic, it does not hurt. It has a nice yoke to it, so you can adjust the angle of the pitch. It seems sturdy enough and the ball carriage might be expandable. I'm working with franklin customer service to see if there are extra ball carriages available. The carriage that come with it is assembled from three pieces, a lower section, upper section and end unit. You should be able to remove the end unit, and add two more sections and replace the end unit. One must be careful when ordering this device, there are two versions and three prices that I can tell. There is a 6 ball model and an 8 ball model that comes with a bat. Thinking I was purchasing the 8 ball model, I received the 6 ball model. My purchase price was $32.00, the more expensive models may have the 8 balls with it, I do not know. It hard to discern. I did purchase the extra dimple ball set (1998), it turns out that these are a little too heavy for the unit. They do shoot out of the unit, but at such a slow rate, they are way too easy to hit. A better choice might be ball set B001LK2F74, I have not purchased them yet, but plan on it. I find using the device, a very good workout and I have absolutely no issues with the device itself. It does what it suppose to do, just wish I got more balls to hit with.
3 | Franklin Sports MLB® Power Pitcher Pro Pitching Machine #14948S11 |
| We were looking for something that would help my grandson with eye hand co-ordination for his little league games, were they use a pitching machine.
This definetly is easy to set up & use by a 7year old. Can also point it into the air for catching. Ours came with a BONUS adapter for electrical use, no batteries needed !
4 | SKLZ Lightning Bolt Pitching Machine |
| I am a baseball coach and wanted to use the SKLZ pitching machine to help with hitting drills when I am the only coach out on the field. You can load up around 20 balls in the bucket and just let it go for the players to hit off of. The only problem I have is that it is not consistant. I found I needed someone to hold the machine still when running, or it would shift slightly on each pitch. Also after some time you had to adjust the settings as they seemed to move every now and then. Not always, but sometimes.
Since it uses the small golf size foam balls I knew the pitch would move a little, but occassionally it curved or moved so much it was unhittable. When used indoors (garage, gym, etc) then it seems to work much better. I give this product three stars because it is not perfect by any means, but it does get the job done if you have someone behind it working the settings or if you use it indoors. But don't expect to get much out of it if you are by yourself working on your swing.
5 | Franklin Sports Mlb Crossfire Pro Baseball Batting Trainer No. 14947 |
| I purchased this machine for my daughters to get some batting practice in the basement and in the back yard.
Pros: Lightweight and portable, you can adjust height for batter, tosses very tiny balls for good hand eye coordination, Cons: Battery operated (uses 4"C" batteries which last about 2 days), after 30 mins of continuous use the motor starts to slow down and the balls comes out inconsistently. Its not a bad machine, I'm just not a fan of the battery operation. It got expensive replacing the batteries. I do think it helped my kids with their hand eye coordination since having to hit a tiny ball with a stickball bat was challenaging. If you are going to use this machine for rec play for your kids I say its cheap enough of an investment. If you are going use this product as a consistant training tool for your athlete, then I would recommend a different product. |
